REPUBLICAN PARTY OF CUYAHOGA COUNTY CONDEMNS HAMAS MASSACRE AND ANTISEMITIC PROTESTS

For Immediate Release
October 17, 2023

CLEVELAND, OH – Over the past few days, the Republican Party of Cuyahoga County has been diligently working to address recent events in the Middle East. We spoke with members of the Jewish community, scholars, and received input from our members and Republicans across the county. After gathering information and perspectives, Party Chairman Lisa M. Stickan issued the following statement:

“Over the weekend, we all were shown by the media and on social media evidence of atrocities committed by Hamas against innocent Israelis, American citizens, and other foreign nationals. Much of this evidence was provided by the terrorist organization itself. The Republican Party of Cuyahoga County strongly condemns Hamas’ brutal actions in its massacre on October 7th. This level of brutality is shocking and is inconsistent with civilized society. Over 1,400 people were murdered, at least 29 of whom were Americans. Victims include women, children, and the elderly. Hamas now reportedly has over 150 hostages in Gaza, as many as 20 of whom are believed to be Americans. Hamas acts with the sponsorship of Iran, the world’s leading sponsor of terror. We urge the Biden Administration to refreeze $6 billion it has been planning to release to Iran.

In addition, threatening, antisemitic, anti-American pro-Hamas protests are taking place across the country and, importantly, on college campuses. We call upon college and university presidents to show leadership in opposing antisemitism and in standing up for American values and basic human decency.

Finally, we fully and unconditionally support Israel’s right to defend itself and to remove Hamas as a military threat to Israel and the world. We pray for the safety and release of Americans and other hostages held in Gaza and for peace in the region.”
